FAQ about Microsoft Copilot for nonprofits

Is Microsoft Copilot really free?

Yes. Microsoft states that Copilot is available at no cost, and also describes it as a limited free version subject to available capacity and limits. The free version covers everyday chat grounded on the web plus image creation.

Do I need to sign in to use it?

No. Basic use does not require a sign-in. Signing in adds access to chat history, image creation, longer conversations and voice interactions.

Is there a limit on free messages?

Microsoft publishes no fixed daily allowance for the free version. The published caps, such as 30 minutes of voice a day, apply to the paid personal, family and premium plans. Voice features are not currently available without a Copilot license.

What does a nonprofit pay for the organization-wide product?

Eligible nonprofits can buy Microsoft 365 Copilot as an add-on for $25.50 per user per month paid yearly, which is a 15% discount and requires a separate qualifying Microsoft 365 license. That is a different product from the free consumer assistant described here.
